VideoEdge 5.0 Feature Highlight

Highlights of the 5.0 Release:

Features in Detail:

New user interface offers task-based workflows for increased efficiency and better overall operator experience

victor’s transformed interface has been redesigned to offer a task-based workflow approach. The new UI moves from an antiquated ribbon bar to a contemporary navigation pane (complete with tool tips) to significantly reduce the number of clicks needed for day-to-day surveillance activities.  This focus on efficiency is well-illustrated by the new “home” view that automatically remembers frequently used operator actions and presents those in a “Recent Items” tab upon login.

The new UI is available in dark and light theme options; the dark option is well-suited for dimly lit command center environments and has been proven to reduce eye strain while improving video quality.

Far beyond a simple re-skin, the new interface simplifies forensic investigating and live viewing and provides the foundation for UI consistency across all victor and VideoEdge applications. And, while the change in UI is dramatic in appearance and increased operator efficiency, the changes are so intuitive that the learning curve is surprisingly short.

VideoEdge 5.0 New User Interface

Speaking of improved user experience…

We have enhanced victor’s Dynamic Views by adding right-click options to bring up device lists and detailed information about those devices (name, IP address, health status).

VideoEdge 5.0 Dynamic View
Right-click options streamline operations

In addition, we have simplified an operator’s ability to view alarms and events with ‘filter and sort’ options in the Event Viewer.

VideoEdge 5.0 Event Viewer
Filter and sort options provide a much cleaner view of alarms and events.

License Plate Recognition helps identify, track and analyze vehicles for improved outdoor surveillance

License Plate Recognition (LPR) from victor and VideoEdge helps security operators identify, track and analyze vehicles for improved outdoor surveillance and better awareness of surroundings. This analytic can identify license plates in both stop & go and slow-moving traffic (≤ 20mph), and will trigger real-time alarms and automatically begin recording when blacklisted vehicles enter a restricted area.

Operators utilize “fuzzy match” with Smart Search, victor/VideoEdge’s forensic search engine, to identify commonly confused characters, such as 8 and B, to generate a list of possible matches. Smart Search can also place asterisks (*) and question marks (?) to correlate recorded video and searches when only a portion of a license plate number is known.

For optimal performance, we recommend Illustra Flex IP Bullet or Illustra Pro 2MP Mini-Dome cameras, or equivalent IP cameras with WDR and high shutter speed.

Object Perimeter Detection analytic rule triggers an alarm when a zone is approached or breached

The new perimeter detection analytic rule, now included in the VideoEdge Video Intelligence and Analytics package, can trigger an alarm if a configured zone is approached or breached, and can be used for real-time alarms or forensic analysis.

VideoEdge TrickleStor technology provides edge-based failover redundancy

VideoEdge’s new TrickleStor feature adds cost-effective redundancy by allowing the video that is recorded on Illustra IP cameras’ SD cards to trickle back to the VideoEdge NVR in the event of communication failure or network outage.  If communication between the NVR and cameras is interrupted, the camera automatically detects the anomaly and begins recording to its internal micro SD card, storing up to 128GB of video depending on the camera. Once the connection is restored, the recorded video is then seamlessly transferred back to the NVR’s hard drive.

New integration with Shooter Detection System

The new integration with Shooter Detection System’s gunshot detection solution ties immediate gunshot detection alerts with victor and VideoEdge to pull cameras to the shooting incident.

This enables operators to rapidly identify shot location on a floor plan, and provide emergency response instructions for instant situational awareness to a shooting event into one interface.

Airport security soars on strength of integrated platform

Ever expanding and seemingly always in flux, airports present great opportunities but also major challenges for security integrators and security technology providers.

Airport Security Today

Today’s modern airports are security-centric enterprises that have multi-faceted surveillance and access control systems. Although airport security was heightened after the terrorist attacks in the United States on 9/11, anytime these facilities undergo some degree of modernization or add to their footprint, they are presented with the prospect of taking security to the next level.

However, any changes to an airport security system must take into account the substantial technological investment that has already been made as well as the importance of keeping the systems manageable on 24/7 basis.

About Izmir Airport

At Turkey’s Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, this blending of old and new occurred as the airport constructed a new domestic terminal with a security system that needed to mesh with the one in the existing terminal installed more than 10 years earlier.

While the airport’s operator TAV-Ege was eager to introduce IP-based products into the new terminal, it also wanted to leverage its existing and still highly functional components from the old terminal such as analog cameras.

Izmir Airport

Solution

To meet the airport’s needs, together with the help of integrator Sensormatic Guvenlik Hizmetleri, Tyco Security Products presented airport officials with an integrated solution that could accommodate the 700 analog cameras from the old terminal, while also handling the 600 new IP cameras from the newly constructed building.

The installation of modern VideoEdge network video recorders (NVR) from American Dynamics and backbone systems like the victor unified security solution and Software House’s C-CURE 9000 security and event management platform ensured that the airport would manage both old and new cameras and access systems seamlessly from a single platform.

Izmir Security Center

The new unified platform also brought a fuller feature set to the airport, offering video analytics within the NVRs so security staff could:

  • Recognize and address threats more easily
  • Save time with real-time alerts of objects abandoned
  • Intelligent, powerful analytics automate security operations
  • Greatly reduce time searching for incident evidence
  • Presents better control of restricted areas through the C-CURE access control system
  •  Brings together CCTV and access so system operators can now view video along with any alarms that occurs

Even as the capabilities of the system have increased, however, the ability to manage it remains intuitive and straightforward, which is critical in a potentially high-risk environment like a major airport.

Izmir Security camera

As Turkey’s fourth busiest airport, Tyco Security Products complete solution has poised Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport for growth and scalability to allow for future system upgrades and even camera additions if warranted.

And as more airports undergo this type of expansion, the demand for integrated solutions that bring old and new systems together should only increase.

Iowa casino ups its game with Tyco Security Products Video Surveillance Solution

As one of Iowa’s most successful casino resorts, WinnaVegas Casino and Resort knows how to help guests relax in style. With a 24-hour casino, arcade, fitness center, pool, fine dining and event center, guests have all they could want at their fingertips. It’s no wonder that WinnaVegas is one of the most popular casino resorts in the region.

WinnaVegas Casino

Challenge

In the gaming business, speed and efficiency are everything, including surveillance and security. After recent expansion of its casino, hotel and parking areas, WinnaVegas Casino Resort needed to update its surveillance system with a cost-effective way to migrate from analog to fast, high-performing IP video technology. With some video monitoring systems and IP cameras, there is latency, or delay, between the operator’s joystick command and the camera’s movement. WinnaVegas surveillance operators wanted to be able to quickly track a patron moving across the casino floor or zoom in for a closer look at a player’s hand of cards, so low latency cameras were required.

Solution

Illustra ProThe Illustra Pro PTZ and mini-dome cameras in combination with the victor/VideoEdge Video Monitoring System from Tyco Security Products give the casino resort the high-resolution video and low latency needed for its growing and complex operations. The Illustra PTZ cameras allow WinnaVegas surveillance staff to actively monitor happenings on gaming floors with exceptional situational awareness and reliable control to easily identify clear details.

The cameras’ bandwidth usages are low, using H.264 compression to reduce bandwidth to a fraction of that used by most 1080p HD PTZ cameras. Lower bandwidth provided by Illustra cameras reduces network traffic, saves on storage costs and keeps communications between devices and servers nimble and efficient.

Victor and VideoEdge provided the casino with a bridge between its existing analog system and new IP system. victor/VideoEdge ties in the casino’s Illustra IP cameras and VideoEdge network video recorders and hybrid recorders with its existing analog infrastructure, allowing operators to manage live and recorded video through a single interface. Real-time alarms and events also can be leveraged with video, audio, motion and other advanced features to provide the immediate birds-eye view needed by the casino resort.

VideoEdge network video recorders were added to provide the speed and power desired by WinnaVegas Casino Resort and its operations. VideoEdge enables multiple video streams for live, record, alarm bump and meta-data collection and features Smart Search for fast searches that staff can export event findings when needed. The NVRs’ multicast video streaming technology and victor’s built-in intelligence further reduce bandwidth requirements.

The Tyco Security Products solution delivered the simplified management, seamless integration into one, unified security system and high quality images.  As WinnaVegas contemplates its next expansion, it won’t need to roll the dice with an entirely new proprietary system or transition completely to IP technology—WinnaVegas can build upon its existing victor, VideoEdge, Illustra solution and grow its security system as needed, one chip at a time.
