ESM Failover for exacqVision

The new Enterprise System Manager (ESM) Failover feature ensures the high availability of mission critical security video and data. ESM Failover helps avoid downtime by:

  • Continually monitoring exacqVision recorders for possible failures
  • Automatically moving functionality to “spare” servers in the rare event of a failure
  • Manual ESM Failover mode for maintenance of exacqVision recorders

Monitor

Restore recording functionality within minutes!

15 secondsHow fast is ESM Failover?
ESM failover is designed to detect a server failure within 15-30 seconds. This setting is configurable, so a long delay could be set to avoid failover during a reboot, for example. A manual failover mode also exists for performing tasks like system maintenance. In the event of an actual system failure, the spare recorder can be up and running within a matter of minutes.

Failover

What Fails Over?

  • Z-SeriesCameras
  • Recording Schedules
  • Users
  • Event Linking
  • Saved layouts, Views, Groups and Maps
  • Serial Profiles
  • Archiving configuration
  • Notification Rules
  • Auto Export Rules

Failover does not change the network identity of the protected recorder or spare in order to prevent duplicate IP addresses. Analog cameras and analog inputs are not part of ESM Failover due to wiring requirements of analog devices. Also note that the spare server storage doesn’t need to match the protected server, but should simply provide enough storage for anticipated downtime.

Failback
ESM will automatically failback to the protected recorder when available. The video from a failover remains on the spare server until manually moved back to the protected server.

Failover Requirements

Failover requires spare recorders, typically in the same family as the primary recorder, each with enough capacity to store video for the anticipated duration of the downtime. Failover also requires exacqVision camera licenses for the cameras being recorded. ESM Failover requires the Enterprise Server Option on an exacqVision server along with ESM running on a separate server.

Exacq at ASIS 2012

Exacq at ASIS International 2012ASIS International 2012 just wrapped up in Philadelphia. It was a very good tradeshow for us. Although show attendance was perceived to be down by some accounts, the Exacq booth was very busy the entire show.

exacqVision 5In our booth at ASIS 2012 was the first showing of exacqVision 5, the latest version of our exacqVision Video Management Software, which will be released September 17. One of the key features in Version 5 is Multistreaming support. Multistreaming allows the ability to set multiple, independent video streams from the IP camera. Each stream can be set at different frame rates, resolution and quality level, ideal if you require remote viewing over a limited-bandwidth connection, but want to retain the highest resolution for recording and local viewing. Up to four streams per camera can be selected, depending on the IP camera model.  In addition, up to eight ‘Region of Interest’ streams can be setup on select Arecont Vision cameras, allowing for true cropping of individual, independent streams, and a full realization of the benefits of multi-megapixel cameras.

With exacqVision Multistreaming, all streams can be recorded, viewed live, saved to views, exported, and available in search and playback. No additional licensing is required; the standard exacqVision camera license enables up to four video streams, and up to eight Region of Interest streams are available on Arecont Vision cameras. Supported IP cameras for multistreaming in Version 5 include Axis, Arecont Vision, Panasonic and ACTi, with more coming. Over 240 IP camera models will be supported in multistreaming in this release, with more coming. Multistreaming is supported in exacqVision Pro, Enterprise, and Edge.

exacqVision 5 multistreaming

Exacq at ISC West 2012

Exacq at ISC West 2012ISC West 2012 just wrapped up in Las Vegas. It was a busy and successful show for us. Our new, larger booth enjoyed extremely heavy traffic throughout the three-day show; our products were on display in a number of third-party integration partner booths, and we previewed new products, including:

exacqVision Edge Our new exacqVision Edge product, a complete Enterprise VMS server running on an IP camera, was featured. Initially supporting Axis IP cameras with ARTPEC 3 & 4 processors, exacqVision Edge loads directly onto the IP camera. Edge provides complete exacqVision Enterprise functionality without the need for an external server. Edge cameras appear in the camera tree just like cameras from any other server, and can be mixed and matched with existing exacqVision servers. Ideal for add-on cameras to existing systems where additional servers are too costly or not practical, for wireless outdoor cameras where consistent network connectivity is an issue, for short-term or covert deployment where there is no network connectivity, and for installations requiring distributed storage for high reliability. Ease of deployment for integrators: install and configure exacqVision Edge at the shop, then simply ship the cameras to the site for mounting and POE connection to network.

exacqVision 4.5 Released

exacqVision 4.5Version 4.5 of exacqVision Video Management Software has just been released. This latest release, compatible with all exacqVision Hybrid and IP video surveillance systems, incorporates new features and enhancements, and continues our quest for rapid, incremental updates.

Version 4.5 is available for download here. Key features in the 4.5 Release include:

  • Serial keywords used as Event Linking and Monitoring Sources
  • New RTSP Plugin – Video/Audio Streaming from RTSP Devices
  • ONVIF PTZ & Presets added
  • Samsung 5000-Series IP Cameras Supported through ONVIF
  • Bosch ONVIF Enhancements
  • New Panasonic WJ-GXE500 encoder support
  • Panasonic protocol analog PTZ enhancements
  • Audio support for Panasonic IP cameras
  • Arecont – privacy mask enabled in latest models
  • Enterprise System License Management from My Systems Page
  • Finnish Language Support

Here are some of the features in detail:

Serial Keywords used as Event Linking and Monitoring Sources
A major new feature in 4.5 is the ability to create unique events on serial keywords, either from UART or IP serial ports. By tapping into the power of exacqVision event linking, creating unique events on serial keywords greatly enhances the configurability of exacqVision to act on events. Some of the key uses of this are:

Point of Sale (POS) – By using keywords, specific red-flag transactions could be subject to additional scrutiny, such as logging, e-mail alerts, move to a specific PTZ preset, etc. The keyword events are also visible in the graphical search timeline, creating an easy path for case building.

Video Analytics – Using the event per keyword also opens up support for a host of video analytic packages. In particular, keywords used with the new RTSP plugin (also in 4.5) enable the use of the full analytic functions with VideoIQ IP cameras (discussed further below).

Access Control – Using keywords with access control systems can enable video recording or other actions. Keywords can come from an access control server, or directly from IP readers.

Easy to Deploy – Using keywords with exacqVision’s powerful event linking function means integrators can easily configure systems to respond to a wide variety of events, all with zero programming.

Keyword Demo – We’ve setup a web page to demo the event-per-keyword functionality, here:
http://www.exacq.com/epk

In this demo, you can type in "clock" or "front door" or "side door" or "disco" or combinations of keywords. Pre-defined event linking will swing the PTZ camera to those locations and, if selected, turn on the famous Exacq disco ball via the relay outputs.

Exacq Event Per Keyword demo

New RTSP Plugin – Video/Audio Streaming from RTSP Devices
Version 4.5 includes a new Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) plugin, enabling the connecting of a wide variety of video devices including a large population of IP cameras. RTSP is a widely-used streaming protocol, and most every IP camera vendor supports it to one degree or another. Our RTSP plugin is based on live555, which is the code base for many streaming applications, including the ubiquitous VLC.

VideoIQVideoIQ Analytic Cameras – A key benefit of this plugin, combined with the Keyword eventing above, is the ability to use the video analytics found in VideoIQ cameras. Version 4.5 allows the connection of any VideoIQ IP camera, and enables actions to happen based on analytic events from the camera. Analytics available in VideoIQ cameras include:

• Perimeter protection
• Virtual fence or “tripwire”
• Unmanned site protection
• Crowd formation monitoring
• Direction of travel monitoring
• Outdoor inventory control
• Indoor object removed

Large Variety of RTSP Cameras – RTSP is broadly used by IP camera vendors, and as such the RTSP plugin enables the use of most every IP camera, from consumer-grade up through the highest-end cameras. RTSP does not support motion detection at the edge, but is useful when basic video streaming form just about any camera is necessary. A fairly comprehensive listing of available RTSP-supported IP cameras is here.

Individual License Update –To update individual system license keys, go to the My Systems page, right click on any system in the Subscription column, select Update, and select either Update License from file or Update License from text.

Batch License Update – For enterprise installations with dozens or even hundreds of servers, license update is now entirely automated. A single .CSV file with all MAC addresses and License Keys is generated by Exacq. The user simply imports that one file and it applies the license keys to all servers. The user can also easily export all server license keys for easy updating.

Exacq at PSA-TEC 2010

Exacq at PSA-TEC 2010We have just returned from PSA-TEC 2010, the annual education, training and technology event that PSA Security Network holds for its members. We have found PSA-TEC to be of considerable value to us, as it affords us the opportunity to spend some in-depth time with the PSA member resellers.

One of the most important parts of the conference is the training sessions. We held one of our day-long exacqVision technical reseller training sessions on Tuesday, where we had a pre-registered full house as well as some dealers who added the course on-site.

Exacq receives Superstar Vendor Achievement Award at PSA-TEC 2010Wednesday morning was the Vendor Awards Banquet, the result of PSA member surveys ranking vendors on overall products, support, pricing, and service to the membership. We were very honored to receive the "Superstar Vendor Achievement Award" this year, the highest award PSA offers. Our sincere appreciation goes out to the entire PSA member base for this award.

After the awards breakfast was the trade show. This was the first year at the Rosemont Convention Center, and the upgraded facilities were a great change of pace. We had a packed booth the entire show, and the increased space and wider aisles were most welcome. We showed our latest exacqVision Version 4.1 features, as well as a sneak peek of the upcoming Version 4.2 features, including Sanyo IP camera support and ONVIF support, using Bosch and other ONVIF-compatible cameras. We also were using IP cameras from Axis, Vivotek, IQeye, Panasonic, ACTi, Sony, and Arecont Vision, who was also right across the aisle from us.

Additionally, we also featured our iPhone & iPad surveillance app, which allows full connection to all exacqVision servers, live viewing with multiple camera layouts, and search and playback of recorded video.

Sam Pfeifle of Security Systems News gave his take on the show in this blog post. Wednesday night was the popular PSA-TEC Jam Session, and Sam was live-streaming the band over his iPhone via ustream.com. He posted archival video of that event here.

Our thanks once again to the entire PSA organization for the great job they did with this years’ well-run event. Below are some pictures and a video from the show floor. Click on each for a larger image.
