exacqVision 8.0 Release Introduces Suspect Tracking

exacqVision 8.0, the latest release of exacqVision video management system [VMS] software, is now available from Exacq.

Software Downloads

Watch this video to see the new features in exacqVision 8.0.

exacqVision 8.0 highlights:

Suspect Tracking

Suspect Tracking allows users to follow a person or object of interest through an entire scene faster. Users can configure CameraLinks, also seen as Associations in the client configuration, to set up a series of links between multiple camera views displayed by overlay boxes in live view. Each polygon can be customized by border and transparency and placed wherever you’d like in the range of view. By left double-clicking on the polygons in the live camera view, users can navigate through the scene following a person of interest.

Users can also dynamically build an export of suspect tracking in exacqVision search greatly simplifying finding video evidence. Start with the first camera of the scene and expand to additional cameras. Once all the cameras in the scene have been added, then bookmark the video and label for export.

Exacq Suspect Tracking

Under the Configuration page, navigate to the new Suspect Tracking tab. Click ‘New’ and draw the box on the camera view. Under ‘Area Configuration’ choose the camera and set the background and border.  A slider bar for opacity of the background and border can be set.

suspect-tracking-configuration

To configure suspect tracking faster on an enterprise system, select the ‘Generate from Map’ button. exacqVision will generate default links on the cameras based on  which camera is closest on the map.

Available for exacqVision Professional and Enterprise VMS software.

New CameraLinks

CameraLinks put the most needed controls at the user’s fingertips in live view.

  • Enable and disable digital PTZ mode from live view via the new CameraLink.
  • Access exacqReplay directly from live view within CameraLinks for an instant replay of video and audio events. View video in segments of  5 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes to 15 minutes.

exacqReplay CameraLink

Archive Bookmarks

Archive Bookmarks allows users to create a second copy of important video. Adding to the direct archive search introduced in exacqVision 7.8, archive bookmarks enhances video archiving to provide faster access to video and better manage bandwidth. Users closer to the archive location on the network can directly search video on the archive without routing data through the recorder.

Enable archive bookmarks on the archiving target location by selecting the “Archive All Bookmarks” checkbox on the Archiving Schedule page. This applies to all bookmarks created on the specific recorder and will not restrict by camera or day. Bookmarked video will not delete until the bookmark is removed from the recorder.

At-Most Rule on Archive

exacqVision users can enable a rule to define an expiration of maximum number of days of video to retain. The at-most rule applies to all video on the archive target and not defined per-camera.

On the Target tab, turn on the expiration configuration and select the number of days.

Inactivity Timeout

Operators can now configure exacqVision to timeout after a specific period of inactivity to conserve bandwidth. This new feature is configured per client. While the camera and client stay connected to the recorder, users can simply mouse over the client to resume viewing video.

exacqvision-8-0_inactivity-timeout

On the client configuration page, users can check the ‘enable’ box and specify the number of minutes to disconnect the live streams after.

View the Inactivity Timeout pop-up box to alert users the live streams will disconnect due to inactivity.

Stream Rate Control

exacqVision 8.0 introduces two new ways to configure camera stream bandwidth to the recorder. The existing constant quality setting is still available in addition to  the new constant bitrate and maximum bitrate settings. Set the stream to maintain quality or maintain bitrate to more consistently manage bandwidth and storage usage.

Constant Quality

  • Set the quality from 1-10 as in previous releases of exacqVision

Constant Bitrate

  • Set bitrate and the stream will adjust quality as needed

Maximum Bitrate

  • Set the quality from 1-100  and a maximum bitrate [Note the quality slider is a scale the same as the camera]
  • Stream maintains quality until it hits the maximum bitrate

Available for the following camera brands:

  • Illustra
  • Axis Communications
  • Arecont Vision
  • Hikvision

Camera Name and Serial Data Background

Users can now customize the text and background color for the camera name and serial data displayed in live mode to make the information easier to read in specific environments.

  • Font
  • Size
  • Effects color
  • Background Color
  • Background Opacity [0-100%]

exacqVision 7.8 Release Enables Direct Archive Search and Introduces Camera Connection Diagnostics

exacqVision 7.8, the latest release of exacqVision video management system (VMS) software, is now available from Exacq.

Software Downloads

Watch this video to see the exacqVision complete security solution and new features.

exacqVision 7.8 highlights:

Direct Archive Search

Direct Archive SearchexacqVision 7.8 enhances video archiving to provide faster access to video and better manage bandwidth. Users closer to the archive location on the network can directly search video on the archive without routing data through the recorder. Direct archive search is available for any exacqVision S-Series storage device and any third-party network share archive.

For customers that want to implement mobile video on vehicles such as trains, subways, and buses, exacqVision Edge+ VMS software on a camera can be used in combination with direct archive search to send video to the archive while at the station and view video from the archive while the vehicle is on duty.

Direct archive search can be enabled for exacqVision Professional and Enterprise users. To enable direct archive search, users can go to the Archiving page and select the enabled check box under the new Direct Search section and enter read-only username and password credentials that the client will use to access the network share.

Camera Connection Diagnostics

exacqVision will now provide guidance on all camera connections to resolve and troubleshoot camera connections faster. The new camera diagnostic information will reduce common technical support questions.

exacqVision_Camera_Diagnostics

Under IP Camera Information there is a new Troubleshooting Steps field that gives specific instructions to support connection scenarios for any camera manufacturer and model. Connection Diagnostics and descriptions include:

  • Different Subnet – IP of camera is on a different subnet and may not be reachable.
  • Duplicate IP – Device with the same IP address is already in the list
  • Wrong IP – Device of the same type was discovered at a different IP
  • Type Mismatch – Device of a different type discovered at the same IP
  • Bad Credentials – Camera is rejecting the username or password

Hard Disk Drive Serviceability

exacqVision will automatically run disk health checks for proactive notification when a NVR hard drive may fail.

HDD-Serviceability

On the Storage page under the Hardware tab, users can find the storage hardware disks. exacqVision will show a green check mark or red X indicating if the disk has failed or a HDD failure is impending.. Users can perform a self-test for a single disk or for all disks by clicking one of the two buttons: ‘start short test’ which typically takes seconds or ‘start long test’, which may take a few hours to complete. The status line under the properties section will display the drive failure and notify the user if a drive needs replaced. This feature is available exclusively on exacqVision network video recorders.

Bandwidth Control

exacqVision Professional and Enterprise users can configure bandwidth limitations to certain IP ranges and during specific hours to optimize traffic. Bandwidth can be customizable down to the Kbps or Mbps for greater control.

Bandwidth can be limited for:Bandwidth-Configuration

  • All Remote Client Access – affects all client traffic out of the recorder
  • WAN Client Access – affects all traffic on a different subnet
  • Defined IP Ranges – affects only the defined IP ranges

Bandwidth can be scheduled for specific days and start and end times. By default, it will be set to Everyday, All Day. For example, in retail applications, users may want to schedule WAN bandwidth restrictions around business hours so lines for credit cards can be used and during closed hours the bandwidth opens up.

MP4 Crop Export

exacqVision users can now export video files to MP4. Along with the new MP4 export feature, exacqVision provides users with the ability to crop the scene, add a subtitle and time stamp to any .EXE, .MOV or .MP4 video file. The ability to crop a scene gives users greater flexibility to meet privacy standards. In schools, administrators can crop the video event footage down to only include the necessary students involved instead of including the entire scene of students, which may violate privacy regulations.

exacqVision_mp4_export_cropping

Users can select the new scissors icon and draw a box around a specific area they would like to crop for the export, allowing them to focus on the necessary area of the event. The cropped image will add a black border with yellow text stating “cropped from original video” to the bottom of the exported file. Watermark authentication is also supported for .exe export.

Users can export files larger than 4GB. Files can still be exported as .exe, .avi and .mov in addition to the new .mp4 format.

Web Service Dashboard

The redesigned web service configuration page now displays performance and connectivity status in a new dashboard for convenient connection monitoring. The page now offers guidance and live status of server workloads and connected users. An easy to read, real-time graphic shows the current CPU and memory usage, the number of connected users and camera streams they are viewing. For further detail, the number of streams being transcoded is shown. The blue section indicates how much the web service is using and the dark gray shows how much the machine is using in total. Within a glance, users can see if the web service is encountering a high level of load. If there is a high number of users or high memory usage, it may be necessary to add hardware to improve performance.

exacqVision_WebConfigurationPage

Additionally, this page will provide guidance on connectivity:

  • Outbound Internet Connection -Confirms the web server can reach the Internet
  • Inbound Internet Connection – Confirms the Internet can reach the web server
  • Internet Address – Confirms the external IP or URL that users will enter into Exacq Mobile

Web-Service-Administration

Exacq Mobile Event List Search

Quickly find and review video associated with POS, access control and other events from your mobile app in a new list search format.

By clicking the search icon in the upper right hand corner of the app and selecting custom, a search details box will appear. Users can select the specific start/end time and up to 4 cameras to search on. Similar to the exacqVision client list search, Exacq Mobile allows users to view a thumbnail of each event and review events individually in a list. Double click or touch any of the results to view the timeline view of the specific event. Users can closely review events quickly to ensure nothing was missed in any of the scenes.

Enterprise System Manager (ESM) License Management

Administrators can now backup and store server licenses directly from ESM. The new functionality allows administrators to easily import, export and save a large number of server licenses and view license expiration dates. On the server details page, users can select the calendar icon to save configuration, change configuration, update software or import license file. This gives ESM administrators the ability to manage all licenses for recorders monitored on the system.
Note: This feature will be released within the coming weeks.

Tips for Selecting a Cost-Effective, Efficient Municipal Security System

Challenged with patrolling a large area and protecting thousands of residents and hundreds of businesses, local governments and police departments need an efficient video surveillance system. Today, municipalities face a variety of new security challenges including geographical disparity, scalability and remote monitoring.

Camera on Building

Government and municipal projects often have tight budget restraints and require a cost-effective surveillance system that covers a large area while providing expansion opportunities for future security needs.

Union City, N.J., and Prospect Heights, Ill., are two cities that have recently implemented cost-effective video surveillance systems. As a result, each city has seen a reduction in crime rates and a vastly improved public safety system by considering the following elements in their solution.

View Video Remotely
To provide a successful municipal surveillance system, find a video management system (VMS) software that law enforcement officials can easily use remotely. Police departments need to view live and recorded video from their desks, phones or vehicles from anywhere throughout the city, day or night.

Prospect Heights Police Department strategically placed cameras in the highest risk public areas. With exacqVision VMS software all government officials can download the free Exacq mobile app or run the free client software on any web browser. This allows them to assess situations as they are happening and provide guidance to on-the-scene officers. Additionally, the exacqVision software has given them the opportunity to monitor their risk, assess the environment they are entering and prioritize issues immediately from their devices. Remote video monitoring enhances situational awareness, enabling them to respond quicker and more effectively at crime scenes.

Implement a Wireless Solution
When tasked with monitoring a city consisting of thousands of residents, consider implementing a wireless mesh network for the most effective security system. In Prospect Heights, Illinois, the surveillance system acts as a force multiplier, allowing the police department to keep more officers patrolling the streets and letting the cameras cover high crime areas. With this solution, video from the cameras is transported wirelessly to a nearby building and then transmitted to the police station over the secured network. The wireless system connects the police department with the community  areas for real-time viewing of activities. By leveraging this capability, Prospect Heights can monitor crime in neighborhoods without the need for full-time police officers to constantly patrol the area.

Be Resource Efficient
Replacing an entire security system can be very expensive. As an alternative, law enforcement officials can leverage their current infrastructure, wiring and analog cameras while also updating their security system. This maximizes the initial security investment while providing the flexibility to upgrade the system later. Union City, N.J. was able to utilize their existing analog infrastructure while also adding new technology, while Prospect Heights Police Department fully integrated the surveillance system with their broadband wireless network to better leverage resources.

Find an Easy-to-Use VMS Software
Simplify the process of searching and exporting video by selecting an easy-to-use VMS software. Most police departments and local governments suffer from lack of time and limited resources. The exacqVision client greatly improved operations and reduced investigation time for Prospect Heights Police Department. In the event of a reported crime, police officers can use the exacqVision VMS software for post-incident investigation and research. Officers can quickly search the exacqVision client for the time of the incident and can then export real-time evidence and footage to be used in court if necessary. Chief of Police Jamie Dunne noted, “The exacqVision software has allowed us to quickly capture video clips of incidents that we have used to bring criminal investigations to successful conclusions.”

Prepare for Future Growth
Communities continually grow and crime hot spots change. Therefore, municipalities need to be forward thinking when designing a security solution. Scalable solutions provide an easy method to add cameras and expand the security system as the population demographics adjust. Prospect Heights initially designed their wireless security solution with future additions in mind. They accounted for the ability to add cameras moving forward and adjust the system as needed.

exacqVision iPhone App update – Version 1.15

There are two versions of the exacqVision iPhone App on iTunes. The Lite version is free and fully functional. It connects to all of the exacqVision demo servers in Indiananapolis and California, which is a great way to demo the mobile capability of exacqVision. The full version, at $49.99, enables connecting to an unlimited number of cameras on an unlimited number of exacqVision servers.

For those with smaller camera count viewing requirements, an update to the Lite version of the iPhone app will be of interest. Version 1.15 of the lite app, now on iTunes, is a free download or update. In addition to free viewing of all cameras on the exacqVision demo servers, version 1.15 now enables users to add single cameras from their own exacqVision servers at a low, $4.99 per-camera price as an in-app purchase.  For deployments where mobile users only need to monitor a small number of cameras, this is a useful and cost-effective option.

NVR Viewer Lite is available at no charge on the iTunes store here. More information on the exacqVision iPhone/iPad app on our mobile page.
