On January 1st, AT&T will shut down its 2G network in the US* and other telecommunications carriers are likely to also end 2G coverage in the near future.

That means it’s time to say goodbye to 2G. US dealers should be taking action now to safeguard their customers’ connectivity.

Are you ready?

Once 2G coverage is gone, 2G-connected security systems will lose the ability to communicate alerts and other messages to central monitoring stations or owners.

Dealers who want to ensure continued connectivity for their customers must switch the 2G communicators in installed systems to 3G. In addition to preserving essential communications for their customers, taking action now will help dealers avoid a rush of frantic urgent service calls right after the New Year.

Upgrade to 3G – And save with special offers from DSC

To help dealers migrate any remaining 2G installations to 3G, DSC is offering a special 3G upgrade promotion for US dealers that includes immediate savings** and an easy upgrade process. Find out more by clicking here.

* Exact date may vary in some US regions.

** Must purchase 5 of the same units to get 1 free. Special pricing and offer available for a limited time only.

ID Solutions Chooses Tyco Security Products hattrix Access Control Solution

The Challenge
ID Solutions, a large information technology company, needed a comprehensive and scalable access control solution to help operate/manage security for the firm’s multiple properties, tenants and locations. ID Solutions also required a centralized system on one unified platform with a single user interface that could be monitored remotely from any internet connected PC or mobile device.

The Solution
With the help of integrator CCS, ID Solutions identified Tyco Security Products’ Kantech hattrix security service as the best fit to manage several multi-state properties, including rental units. ID Solutions opted for CCS’ hosted service in which all access control data resides in secure, cloud-based servers managed by CSS while giving ID Solutions security staff the ability to monitor day-to-day security tasks.

  • Significantly reduced costs by outsourcing the system’s database, server applications, and hardware infrastructure and maintenance
  • Simplified security operations as CSS provides the initial configuration of the system and its components, and updates and advanced software changes
  • Streamlined daily operations as ID Solutions staff performs day-to-day security tasks from a single, centralized interface

Ever Noticed How You Need the Newest Technologies to Service the Oldest Buildings?

The irony isn’t lost on us, either.

For many years, the 90-year-old 1898 Wycliff Condominium complex in Atlanta relied on inexpensive, standalone smoke detectors. But recently, residents of the three-floor brick complex became worried about the risk of fire, prompting the search for a new solution for the building’s common areas.

WyCliff Condo

That’s when it became clear that the brick exterior walls and concrete interior walls, and the old, unsuitable wiring in the walls and ceilings, would make installing a hardwired system extremely challenging and costly.

Protex Security Systems, a local systems integrator, recommended a modern system that would elegantly blend into the ornate decor with no need to open up walls: Tyco Security Product’s hybrid PowerSeries Neo intrusion system. The combined wired and wireless alarm system easily covers the large common areas, providing reliable detection and transmission of fire alarm signals without compromising the historic nature of the multi-unit residence.

Read the full case study about the special features of their choice, and why they were necessary to maintain the building’s Southern charms and keep the residents safe.

Read how PowerSeries Neo handles a complex employment roster and associated security for a number of school buildings for the Travis Unified School District in Vacaville and Fairfield, Calif.:

The Challenges

The Travis Unified School District in California,  includes five elementary schools, two of which are within the perimeter of Travis Air Force Base, a middle school, comprehensive high school, alternative high school and a community day school. The constantly –changing roster  implies many time-consuming processes each time a single person was added.

Being able to remotely monitor alarm activity was high on the district’s wishlist to cut down on physical check-ups on sounding alarms to determine whether they were real or false, The district also desired to be able to control their security system through a single easy-to-use interface. Another challenge to both personnel time and the school’s budget was the maintenance required on the individual door sensors. Insufficient battery life required batteries to be changed out every two or three years on the alarmed doors. Additionally, the school district was under a mandate to eliminate phone landlines as its alarm system

Working in concert with its integrator, Alarmtech in Vacaville, California, the Travis Unified School District selected DSC’s scalable PowerSeries Neo hybrid solution to cater to the complexities which their campuses presented. Combined with a user-friendly online management system and Alarm.com’s intuitive app, Travis Unified School District were able to cut down on valuable time and money formerly spent on managing and maintaining the system.

  • Most reliable communication over a multiple-site set-up

  • An easy-to-use administrative tool to handle high volume of personnel-related changes

  •  Control of the system through a single easy –to-use interface with Real-time monitoring

  • Reduced maintenance costs
